Meet Madelyn Berry

One of the sweetest sounds to God’s ear is the sound of worship.  Worship Leader Madelyn Berry understands that and has no problem giving God all He’s due.  Berry, a powerhouse vocalist, has clearly been gifted with the ability to bring God’s people into His presence.  The recording artist has had the opportunity to sing with Darwin Hobbs and Jonathan Nelson, and open up for Canton Jones, Richard Smallwood, Judy Jacobs and Smokie Norful.

Seen on the Trinity Broadcast Network’s Praise The Lord, BET’s Bobby Jones Gospel and featured on Jawn Murray’s compilation CD, Untapped, Gospel singer Madelyn Berry has been making noise in the Gospel music industry for a while now.  She’s known for her energetic and pulse-pounding praise and worship song, “You Deserve All Praise.  Now she’s making her voice even louder with her  new  CD  called Release The Sound, a live project including guest appearances by Martha Munizzi, Darwin Hobbs, LaRue Howard and Trent Cory.

Let’s get to know Madelyn Berry

What age did you start singing? – I have been singing all my life, entertaining my family during family gatherings. But when I was eleven years old, I sang my first solo at Payne.
When did you know you wanted to sing professionally? -  I was inspired to become an artist after attending my first Shirley Caesar concert at the age of 8
What is the name of the new CD? – I titled my latest project Release The Sound. It was inspired by a message series preached by my late pastor Dr. Zachary Tims
What is your favorite song and why? – “Freedom Today” is my favorite song off the record. It is an easy-to-learn, prophetic declaration about walking in freedom in every area of your life.
Who Inspires You? – Ce Ce Winans is one of my biggest inspirations. I have always admired her unique voice and her ability to connect with a lyric. Also, she walks in such grace and humility. I would love to meet her one day!
What advice would you give an up and coming artist? – I would encourage up-and-coming artists to stay true to their calling, and never doubt the gifts that God has placed inside of them
What has been the hardest lesson you’ve learned in the music business? – The hardest lesson I had to learn in this industry is that ministry and business should always remain separate. The main goal is always to touch lives and spread the gospel of Jesus, but it is also important that you handle the business aspect properly. In a nutshell, don’t allow people to take advantage of you.

Corrie Petersen – Words of Inspiration – Day 16

What is the Encouragement Campaign?

It is 21 days of Hope, Inspiration & Solutions, just like the mission of our weekly radio show.

Many people don’t know where to turn in the midst of their storm. We tell them to read the Bible, and that’s what they need to do, but where do they go in the Bible? I can remember when I would go to the bible and it was just words. I didn’t know where to go nor what story or scriptures to read. It was just “Thou, Art ,begat, Mennonites,” and many other words I didn’t understand nor could pronounce. ~ Nicole Cleveland, Founder of Breathe Again Magazine

For 21 days you will hear from men and women of faith that have gone from victim to VICTORIOUS !
They will share how they survived and what encouraged them to keep going.

Scripture: Mark 11:24 – For this reason I am telling you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe (trust and be confident) that it is granted to you, and you will [get it]. AMP

So many times I have thought that the things I ask for were too small for God to handle. Things like the money to have my hair and nails done or something much larger, like the money to pay for a new vehicle.

There have been many times where I thought to myself, ” I’m only one person in this gigantic world. How is it possible for God to see my needs and wants and help me to get them?”  For the longest time I thought to myself I won’t have them because it’s just not possible.

Then a few weeks ago I was in church and our associate pastor was giving us our thought for the week and this is the verse she shared with us. She told a story about how she was first starting in real state and her husband was working a job that didn’t pay much. She wasn’t sure how they were going to make ends meet each month. So each week she would pray for enough money to cover the bills. It wasn’t until a few months had gone by that this verse was placed in front of her and she realized why it was happening. She knew all along it was God, but she didn’t know why until she read Mark 11:24.

Since then that verse has helped me in so many ways including the money to pay for a new vehicle and to cover the taxes and plates. I stopped being afraid to ask and I’ve prayed for whatever my needs are and God has given them to me. It’s a true blessing.

Encouragement:  If you’re suffering or hurting for some reason, read Mark 11:24 and know that you can ask God for anything. It doesn’t matter if you need a way to get out of your current job or to get out of a relationship that’s hurting you, when you trust this verse, it will happen.

Quiet Time with God

In this life you will laugh one day and the very next ,you might cry. We live in a time the world would say is “uncertain”. In the midst of the chaos, how do you find quiet time with God?

Some people are in  a race from the time the alarm clock goes off in the morning until their head  hits the pillow at night. This is not a productive way to live. The hustle and bustle of life will wear you out. You need to reserve space in your life for God. Not just on Sundays, but every day. You don’t have to be in a cathedral for him to meet you. He’ll meet you wherever you are. That’s how much he loves us. If you get still, be quiet and speak to him, he will direct your path. Not shout, scream and cry but just fellowship with him. Be gentle – he is the lover of your soul. There is nothing like time you reserve just for him. It’s so sweet and intimate.

My quiet time with God is early in the morning before anyone gets up in the house. It’s so sweet. It’s my special time – just for him. I talk, I pray, I listen and I sing to my God.

Make sure you set an ongoing appointment on your schedule with God. You won’t be disappointed. You’ll be at peace.

There was a time in my life I was in constant hyper –mode. From early in the morning until 3-4 am in the morning. I would work a full time job, come home, cook, take care of my family and when they went to sleep I would work on my business until the wee hours of the morning. This was not good. It was taking a drastic toll on my mind and my body. I was surviving on 2-3 hrs of sleep each day and the Grace of God.

Finally, I realized, if I was to just slow down and allow the Lord to lead me, I would eliminate most of my time sucking activities that I created for myself.

I am the Lord thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth  thee by the way that thou shouldest go.  ( Isaiah 48:17b)

Next time you set your schedule, make sure to add Quiet Time with God to the agenda.

Spiritual GPS (GOD PROMISED SOLUTIONS)

Just like our daily commutes life’s highway is filled with winding turns, unexpected delays, breakdowns, and unfortunately accidents. We can start off in our minds envisioning a well thought out plan to get us to our desired destination only to later find that road is closed or under construction. Oftentimes our fondestshortcuts lead us into major traffic. It is a proven fact that we map out our lives by identifying the familiar streets marking the crossroads that we are accustom to. You may be asking where I’m
going with this and all I can say is stay along for the ride and keep your mental, emotional, and spiritual seat-belts fastened.

Scripture:  Warning Against Falling Away – Hebrews 5:11-14

We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand.  In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!  Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

This is one of the scriptures that rings in my spirit quite often.  From the very beginning of my journey with Christ, I’ve never wanted to “play with this.”  I asked God to make His word clear to me according to what He desired for “me” to know about His Word.  God’s Word is above everything in my life, in other words, I can’t fix it to satisfy a situation, I can’t use it to manipulate my way out of anything, I can’t justify a situation to make it “sound” good.  It is… God’s Word, His instructions to live a purposed assigned life before Him.

In summary, I read God’s Word for instruction, even when it slaps me in my face!  Even when it’s my spanking so to speak, even when He lets me know, “I see you.”  When He knows that we know, that He knows we know… this scripture reminds me that nothing is unknown to Him or us when He answers our prayers of cry.  When we’re in the middle of a storm, He hears our pleas and when we know better, because we’ve read and studied His word, there is no excuse — only the one we choose.  I share this with you to let you know… sometimes it’s not okay to tuck and run, why?  Because God knows He’s equipped us with His Word and the constant intercession by the Holy Spirit.

Encouragement:  When my husband, my best friend and the man I loved to life, passed away, God’s Word “kept” me.  When you seek the truth, He is faithful to show up! When you study to show yourself approved, rightly dividing the Word of truth (ref: 2 Tim 2:15), God will provide revelation knowledge for a complete understanding of His word according to YOUR situation.  Walk in confidence and constantly declare the Word of God over your life and your family and watch God’s promises show up specifically for you.  Remain in faith that, “so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11

Scripture: I have encountered many scriptures that have blessed, elevated and transformed my life, but one particular one is Jeremiah 29:11, FOR I KNOW THE THOUGHT THAT I HAVE TOWARDS YOU, THOUGHTS OF GOOD AND NOT OF EVIL; TO GIVE YOU AN EXPECTED END. This particular scripture gets me going, no matter the challenges I encounter

Encouragement:  While there’s life, there’s hope. Ecclesiastes 9:4 says ”To him that is joined to the living there is hope; for a living dog is better than a dead lion”. No matter what a person has done against God and against himself or herself, there’s still great hope for the person as far as he/she has breath.

Inspiration for Women

What inspires you?

To live in this present world  you need some inspiration. Life has hit some of us so hard that it seems like we need a move of God to make it day by day. The wind has been knocked out of us and we are in the midst of our storm. The smallest of tasks seem beyond reach when we are hurting.  We are ashamed at the state we are currently in, therefore, we suffer alone. I want you to know that you don’t have to suffer alone. You are not the first, and you won’t be the last. You may be saying , “My situation is different, I am a complete mess  and need a BREAKTHROUGH! ”

Inspiration for Women

In looking  for inspiration on the internet I searched for “ Inspiration for Women”  and found several resources that encouraged, motivated and inspired women from all walks of life.Stories of faith and stories of hope are just a click away.

Are you going through a rough time right now?

If so, you are not by yourself. We all go through our seasons. Sometimes it’s  summertime, the flowers are blooming and the grass is green and other times it seems like winter. It’s cold outside , the grass is dead and the crops have withered away. You continue to ask yourself, “How did I end up here?”

Hang in there. Help is just a click away. You’ll be surprised at all of the stories of faith and stories of hope you will find.  The internet is not all bad,  there are total strangers that want to encourage you. It’s amazing the support you will find if you humble yourself and allow others to help you. Speak up, tell someone that you’re hurting and trust God to bring you out. He did it ( and is doing ) for me.

Sometimes it’s the least likely, that will assist you in your breakthrough.

Be very careful how you entertain strangers, the word of God says that we may be entertaining angels unaware.  ( Hebrews 13:2 )

Take a few minutes and explore the stories on Breathe Again Magazine. Our featured, victorious testimonies will remind you that, we all go through and God is no respecter of persons. If he did it for these women, he will also do it for you.  HIS time is not our time.

I would love to know how you stay inspired?

What inspires you?

No New Year Resolutions for 2013

Happy New Year !

We are exactly one week into the year 2013. That means we have just fifty-one more weeks to go. Around this time is when everyone makes New Year Resolutions and declare what they are going to do in the new year.

No New Year Resolutions for 2013

I stopped making new year resolutions years ago, after realizing I never kept them and was setting myself up for failure. The defeat I would feel after failing to meet lofty, unrealistic new year goals would deflate me. So I stopped making them.

At the beginning of last year, my goal was to continue doing what I love and love what I do, which is helping people realize they are not alone by sharing  victorious  testimonies through Breathe Again Magazine & Breathe Again Radio Show . After working full time for the past 21 years I walked away from my corporate career to pursue my dreams in business and ministry. ( No, not my dream in Hollywood, although I do think I can sing )

Leaving a steady stream of income is something I’m still getting used to.Being a salaried employee, I was paid if I showed up or not. If I don’t show up as an entrepreneur, I don’t get paid. No paid vacation or paid sick days.

It’s not easy, and far more work than having a 9 to 5, but it is well worth it . To be home when my children get off  the bus is priceless.

My baby girl told me she never wants me to go back to work. :)

2012 was a year of CHANGE for me.

Over the past 6 months, I learned things about myself that even I ,was not aware of. A mixture of good, bad and some ugliness rose to the surface. A form of ugliness that was deeply buried since my childhood reappeared a few months ago, which caused many tears and flashbacks from a very dark place in my life. I will continue to deal with and heal this wounded area inside of me  in the  upcoming months.

What we don’t deal with will eventually deal with us.

Do you struggle with dealing with certain issues? Do you have a technique that you use to overcome your fear or hesitation? I’d love to hear from you.

Stay Blessed & Happy New Year
